Q+A with Ian Foote - Chair and Founder of PTP Consulting Group.

Our Head of Operations, Gems Holden sat down with each of our Founders here at PTP Consulting and asked them several questions regarding their career history and what drove them to set up an IT consultancy here in Melbourne.

Ian, why did you decide to become an active investor in PTP? 

For the opportunity to be involved in another Australian IT Services business taking the learnings from previous business(es) and applying those in a contemporary environment.

What excites you about PTP?  

The changes that have taken place in the market particularly with some of the issues around the Big4 present an exciting opportunity to create a business that has significant advantages but at the same time challenges given the current business environment

I’m a firm believer that diversity creates better discourse. What do you think makes Australia such a great place to build a business?

The Australian Constitution and Legal system coupled with a well educated work force and a desirable location for aspirational migrants provides those with a propensity for risk taking an ideal environment to build a business.

From humble beginnings, you’ve all worked your way up to the top, name one lesson you’ve learned during the journey.

It takes a life time to build a good reputation but you can lose it in a minute.

What advice were you given early in your career that has stood the test of time?

Treat everybody with respect whether it is the CEO or the office junior; be accountable and own and learn from your mistakes; surround yourself with as many people as possible who are smarter than you.

What do you think makes a great leader and who do you currently admire in business? 

One who is fearless and is prepared to challenge the norm but who practices honesty, integrity and consistency. Warren Buffett, Melanie Perkins & Cliff Obrecht, Paul Bassat.

What’s important to you now and why? 

To grow PTP to become a significant and respected player in the Australian IT Services market giving staff the opportunity to reach their career aspirations.

Outside of work, what are your passions and interests? 

Family, Health & Fitness, Golf, Carlton Football Club
